Crete

the fifth largest Mediterranean island and once the centre of the Minoan civilization 2700-1420 BC. It is regarded as one of the earliest civilization in Europe.

Geographically Crete is defined by a high mountain range from east to west with some high peaks over 2,450 meters and diverse scenery to green and fertile valleys and plateaus. Famous and adventurous gorges like Samaria Gorge and not at least a long coastline, with sandy beaches, cliffs and mountains down to the sea.

There are four main administrative regional areas; Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion and Lasithi.

Heraklion is the largest city and the capitol of Crete.
