Parikia town and port

Parikia Paros capital and main port. Parikia occupaying a sheltered bay on the west coast of the island.

Parikia very much tied to the shoreline, does not extend inland to any great size and is neatly divided by the road running south from the port, ferry quay. to the east the modern hotel and apartments building as well as the popular town beach, Livadi. To the west the old charming part of Parikia.

Between east and west part lies the church of Ekatontapyliani church. Most of Parikia’s main facilities are to be found within easy walking distance of the ferry quay, next to the local bus terminal, and the windmill.

Parikia offers a good mixture of Greek hospitality, excellent family owned and varied accommodation, Parikia with international atmosphere, good nightlife, great selection of tavernas, bars, retaurants. Interesting churches and a good sandy town beach.

Tired of walking, here is a nice idea,

The Cine Rex open air cinema

began operating in Parikia in the 90s under the ownership of Gerasimos Bizas, who had over 5 open-air cinemas in every village on the island and in Antiparos. Now, with the love and support of the public, it has been saved as the only open-air cinema in the area and his daughter, Betty, took over in 2021.

Parikia, a pleasant town and busy Port

I like the Cycladic traditional white and blue painted houses. Parikia’s small and narrow streets in the old part of town, nice town squares, shops, tavernas, bars and restaurants.

Most ferries dock here, which makes the Parikia port busy and creates a lively atmosphere. The tourist industry was developed here in the late 1960’s and today is one of the most visited and loved islands in the Cyclades, could be a bit crowded in July-August. I love Paros, been here 5 times.

Parikia waterfront promenade

During our visit year 2019 (we were 3 “old boys” pensioners.) We enjoyed our numerous daily stroll along the seafront (running parallel with the main coast road) from the windmill (ferry port square) to the east alomg the port quay watching the busy local fishermen. The windmill is the first landmark you will see arriving by ferry to Parikia port.

Opposite the seafront on the other side of the busy main coast road most of Parikia’s hotel and apartments block are located here loads of bars, restaurants, cafes and our car rental Kondilis rental office for scooters, buggies, cars and next door Marina Internet Cafe, where we enjoyed our breakfast most mornings.

Parikia Port, is connected by local bus (bus station at the port) to the most popular places around the island, including Naoussa, Alyki, Pounta, Golden Beach.

Our afternoons/early evenings stroll took us to the west and the old part of Parikia town, Between the east and west into town from the windmill, we stopped and visit the Ekatontapyliani church.

Parikia Panayia Ekatontapyliani

Do visit the well known Ekatontapyliani church (Panayia Katapoliani) in Paros Town, its definitily worth a visit.

The name Ekatontapyliani (Ekaton = One hundred)

is associated with a tradition " there are 99 known doors, and the hundredth will be found when Constantinople (the byzantine name for Istanbul) is recuperated ". Built in about 4th century AD, on the ruins of ancient temples.
