Cyclades Islands Brief

Island hoppers paradise. Photogenic volcanic Islands, plenty of beaches, famous lifestyle islands with intensive nightlife. Cyclades are the most visited island group in Greece as they live up to everyone’s Greek island model and holiday dream.

White houses with blue painted window and door frames, hilltop windmills , walking on cobbled streets in the whitewashed cliff top villages with breath taking views, and memorable sunsets,

There are about 220 islands in Cyclades, and less than 30 islands are inhabited. Each island has its own identity and charisma.

The island of Delos near Mykonos, is one of the most important historical, mythological and archaeological sites in Greece.

14 Years ago I bought the book Greek Island Hopping. Little did I know that it was the last edition to be published. As a Greek Island fan I found that the book provides me the most complete guide to the Greek Islands ever!

My Cyclades Islands presentation of four subgroups is based from the Greek Island Hopping book.

The Cyclades Central

Antiparos - Ios - Naxos - Paros - Santorini - Thirasia

The Cyclades Central Islands are so well connected. Paros Island is undoubtedly the best island hopping base in the whole Aegean.

The Cyclades North

Andros - Delos - Mykonos - Syros - Tinos

Mykonos Island is the base port even if it is the final port of call for ferries sailing south the Cyclades North. The placed for Island hopping visiting adjacent islands, combined with daily day trips to Delos and Paros.

The Cyclades West

Folegandros - Kea - Kimolos -Kythnos - Milos - Serifos - Sifnos - Sikinos

Eight Islands in the Cyclades West, however the absence of day trip boats (Milos - Kimolos day service) and limited ferry connections makes it difficult to name a base port in the Cyclades West. The best of them all will be Sifnos Island,

Unless you are successful to pick up an evening ferry return you can end up having to stay overnight when visiting adjacent islands,

The Cyclades East

Amorgos - Anafi - Donoussa - Iraklia - Koufonissi - Schinoussa

The Cyclades Central port of Naxos (or Paros) is the best base port. With tour boats and ferry connections visiting The Small Cyclades Islands (Donoussa, Iraklia, Koufonissi and Schinoussa) Amorgos Island with ferry links daily in the summer, less frequent in the winter.
