Conil de la Frontera

One of the most popular Andalucian town (resort), Conil de la Frontera, is a former fishing village, which has become a popular holiday resort, (it started in the 1960's).

Wide-ranging accommodation, hotels, apartments and holiday villas. There is a good selection of bars, tapas places, restaurants with excellent seafood. Night entertainment. The old town features, some narrow streets and attractive plazas that strengthen the likeable feel-good atmosphere of Conil.

Over 16,000 inhabitants, many more during the high season with a pleasant mixture of Spanish and International holidaymakers.

Stay in Conil

For years I have stayed at the Hotel Oasis Conil when i visited Conil. In my opinion excellent location on Calle de la Fuente, small atmospheric street combining the closeness to Conil’s seafront (the beachfront of Los Bateles) a short stroll to the historic center and a stone's throw from the Torre de Guzmán el Bueno, the Santa Catalina Church. Bars and restaurants, shops.

Comfortable simple clean rooms, helpful and friendly staff, in all good value for money. Reservation and booking direct on their website.

Hoteles Oasis (they also feature some other accommodation, which I’m not familiar with).

Costa de la Luz Beaches

Zahara-de-los-Atunes Beach with Conil in the background

The area boasts 16 kilometres of long sandy beaches stretched out along the Costa de La Luz coastline. Long, flat beaches with white sands, small sections of beach with cliffs behind them, and small intimate coves.

Playa de los Bateles

  • It is the closest to the centre of Conil with a flat promenade and car parking. It is less than one kilometer long and it has a wide sandy beach. Fully serviced with sunbeds, umbrellas and watersports.

The Fontanilla beach

  • some say, is the best beach in Conil, always crowded. Over one kilometer long but not as wide as playa de los Bateles. Fully serviced with sunbeds, hammocks and umbrellas. Bars (Chringuitos) and the famous fish and seafood restaurant La Fontanilla.

Cala del Aceite beach

  • is a popular beach in Conil area, nearly half a kilometer long and under 30 meters wide. Golden colour sand and crystal clear waters. Surrounding cliffs give shelter from the wind, accessed by steps. A parking area and showers. No easy promenade take a bus from Conil

Roche Beach is located next to Cala Encendida

  • Separated by a headland. This is a magnificent beach more than 2 kilometres long and 40 meters wide, Golden colour sand and crystal clear water. No services available (2018). A rather quiet beach. Take your own transport or a local bus.

Cala de Camacho beach and Calas del Quinto beach

  • Both secluded, easily accessible by local bus. includes smaller and secluded coves. Cala del Quinto got three natural coves. Nudists and naturists find this beaches perfect.

 Beaches south of Conil

Playa de El Palmar

  • a few kilometers to the south of Conil de la Frontera.

Playa de Mangueta, Playa Zahora and Los Caños de Meca

  • “next” to each other don’t miss to visit these 3 wonderful beaches

Los Canos

de Meca

Los Caños was in the past attracted primarily by hippies and bohemians and some of the lifestyle atmosphere remains. However: the growing popularity of its beaches and watersport facilities welcome more tourists every year, mainly in the high season months of July and August.
