El Hornillero a chill out Chiringuito

The eastern part of Malaga province is the generally unknown and I thoroughly recommend that visitors should discover the Axarquia region, especially the mountainous rugged beauty of the inland areas with their picturesque “white villages”.

There are many more visitors to the “Costa de Sol” towns and resort areas such as Nerja, Torrox and Torre del Mar in order to enjoy a more cosmopolitan life and organised sandy beaches. But even along the popular cost area there are some unique, less known little gems, only known to the locals.

Hidden behind tropical plants and green vegetation on the Almayate coastal stretch on the beach

El Hornillero

a chill out Chiringuito

The untidy first impression ones get of El Hornillero belies an organised and well kept interior that enhances its oasis image.

Its central area is surrounded by tropical plants and deep green vegetation with a roof covering that is constructed of several layers of palm branches.

The gentle breeze from the Mediterranean adds to the comfortable setting that El Hornillero occupies on the beach. Tables and chairs are placed in the sand, divided in several small areas.

The rustic dark wood table next to us, surrounded by plastic chairs was empty but it looked occupied,

hat on the table a glass seen by the side of the hat and a pair of glasses, a bottle of tonic water, clothes on one of the chairs, and in the sand a pair of shoes under another chair.

Maybe gone for a swim, the sea is within 20 meters

Thirsty?

The bar is well stocked and the cocktail list had several choices of exotic Mojito’s and Capirina’s that was tempting. The cocktail list also included, well fruited and tasty Sangria.

We all enjoyed our Capirina’s, looking out over the beach, with music to chill out to played in the back ground.

If you enjoy a laid back chilled style, barefooted with your toes thrust into the sand just relaxing with your mates or family this is for you.

No credit cards, cash is the name of the game for paying the bill here.

Hungry?

who enjoy the unpretentious, informal setting, table and chairs in the sand, and the food served on different sizes of colourful plates. A varied menu, lunch includes BBQ choices.

We enjoyed a pleasant and tasty dinner, spicy drumstick, prawns, calamaris frito, salad with tomatoes, sliced avocado and pommies fritters, aioli and bread.

Good and cheerful service.

Another glorious day

Early evening, close to sunset, beach nearly empty, small waves. Another glorious sunshine day nearly over, empty chairs and sunbeds standing in the sand.

Sitting, relaxed on the beach, enjoying the last heat from the evening sun and there he was the “missing” person who had left his belonging at the “empty” table described close to the top of the page.
